NEWSLETTER: Vol 3 Issue 2 JULY 2009 Editorial Hi Everyone.! Apologies for this long overdue newsletter, a lot has been happening and other things have taken priority (unfortunately). The weather (up to now) has been kinder to us than last year and we have only missed one scheduled event of our monthly calendar, it would be great to see it continue that way. We hoped for an even bigger and better year for QAGA members in 2009 and we are having it. Member numbers continue to grow and in particular our monthly social golf events. They have attracted over 70 different players to this date. Hopefully we can entice a few more to come and join in, “the more the merrier” as they say. We encourage you to bring both family and friends along to our monthly golf events. Golfing skills are irrelevant, so give it a go. Talking about skills, Coxy and I recently did our Level 1 Coaching qualifications, how he passed I’ll never know! - just joking Coxy. This means that in the future we will be able to provide qualified introductory golf lessons for new amps. I hope to see you all soon Swing Sweet and Have a Great Life! GK
Q.A.G.A. Social Golf Club: February and March again saw large fields playing both Tally Valley and Emerald Lakes respectively. April was a washout and the postponed game was played in May at the Gold Coast Country Club. This time a smallish (all male) field of 14 attended and as you can see from the faces below,a great time was had by all. Thanks must go to Ray Piper for organising the day. QAGA’s June monthly event was held at Lakelands G.C. on Sunday 8th June.A maximum field of 24 players enjoyed a great day, testing their skill against this very popular Gold Coast course. Several good scores were recorded, but the course itself won out on the day with only two players breaking par.
New players Mike and Wazza (above) were NOT those two players, although their smiles would make you think so. AUGUST - Brookwater Golf ClubSEPTEMBER - Carbrook Golf ClubOCTOBER - Gainsborough Greens NOVEMBER - Robina Woods Golf Club DECEMBER - Pacific Harbour Golf Club Q.A IF YOU WOULD LIKE TO SEE ONE OF OUR MONTHLY EVENTS TAKE PLACE AT A PARTICULAR COURSE, (PERHAPS YOUR HOME COURSE), THEN PLEASE CONTACT US A.S.A.P. BEFORE OUR CALENDAR FOR 2009/2010 IS FILLED.A.
More new players above Troy, Geoff, Barry and Kevin, seemed to enjoy their first outing with the “Amps”.
Regulars, Brent Taprell and Ray Whittle always enjoy their day! The “Lovely Lynn” Rowsell (married to “Ugly”) had a run out with us too and managed to steal away Ken’s favourite trophy - the NAGA award. Don’t worry Ugly, we reckon you’re a sure bet to win it back. Sunday 5th July, saw the monthly event for the first time at RIVER LAKES G.C. near Carbrook. The day, organised by Gary Atkinson who is a member there, was an opportunity to enjoy another winter day of beautiful Queensland weather, on another very interesting and challenging golf course. Whilst being a first time experience for most players, it will certainly not be the last (we hope) time we will visit. The day was hallmarked by a very special occasion - Ugly’s first win! Ken Rowsell excelled himself and made the handicapper (who that day had increased Kens’ to a “competitive” 72), look like Elmer Fudd - duuuuhhh! Scoring a fantastic 57points Ken streeted the rest of the field. Newcomer and local member Steve “Shorty” Clifford on 37 came second and Lyn Rowsell picked up 3rd prize with 36pts . Host Gary Atkinson was fourth on 35 and several others scored in the 30’s.
Day Winners Gary Atkinson, “Shorty” Clifford, ”Ugly” Rowsell - with his Magic Carpet and “Lovely Lyn” Rowsell, together with new member Ken Luxford (Centre).
NEXT GAME: SUNDAY 2nd AUGUST AT BROOKWATER G.C.
$65 Includes Golf and Shared Cart. A maximum field of 32 is booked and at time of writing this only 2 spots remain. TO RESERVE YOUR GAME CALL COXY NOW!
