Editorial Hi Everyone.! It has been a little while since our last newsletter, but that is not to say that it has not been a busy period for QAGA members. Various events attended have been; The main fundraiser for the Toowoomba Sub-Branch of the Amputee and Family Support Group of Queensland, which was a golf day held on Saturday 27th September at the Borneo Barracks G.C. near Toowoomba. The Annual State Golf Championship of the Sporting Wheelies Assoc Qld. on Sunday October 19th at Indooroopilly Golf Club in Brisbane. And the Inaugural South Australian Amputee Open held at Adelaide Shores G.C. from Nov. 3rd-7th This is not to mention the monthly Q.A.G.A. golf events which were held at Carbrook G.C. in October and at Colonial G.C. in November. Recognition of our improved relationship with the disabled organisations mentioned above has been received in the form of an appreciation certificate from the A.F.S.G. and a specific mention of Q.A.G.A. in the (abbreviated) report of the Sporting Wheelies Championship. We are certain that more amputees will receive information about the Q.A.G.A. as a result of our support to these groups. Of course the year is not yet finished and we have our Annual Xmas Bribie Bash to finish off 2008 with a Bang! Unfortunately we were unable to secure a suitable tee time slot for Bribie Island G.C. this year and so a change has been made to our normal order of play. Instead the event will be held at Pacific Harbour G.C. on Saturday and North Lakes G.C. on the Sunday. Spots are limited for this event so get in early. You don’t have to compete on both days, but we’re hoping that you’ll make it a great Xmas weekend of golf. We intend to have some great prizes for both days! Swing Sweet and Have a Great Life! GK
Side Note: The Members and Board of the Q.A.G.A. would like to wish Maree Stalling a speedy and full recovery. (Ike Stalling and his wife Maree usually assist with organising our Bribie Is. weekend, unfortunately Maree has not been very well just lately and so their participation this year may be limited). Q.A.G.A NEWS Sporting Wheelies “Multi Disability Golf Championship” 19 October 2008.Report by - Sally Watts, Team Travel Officer Sporting Wheelies and Disabled Association The sun was gleaming, the jacarandas were in full bloom, and the course was in immaculate condition. Both single and doubles players were all geared to tee off at Indooroopilly Golf Course. This pristine location was to be the stunning venue for Sporting Wheelies and Disabled Association’s 2008 Multi-Disability Golf State Championships. The first group to step onto the green playing in the Single Stroke (18 holes) category, consisted of; Greg Kimmins, Graham Cox and BenTullipan, with group two; Ivan Walker, David Male and Lyle Richardson right behind them. Canadian Doubles (9 holes) pairs; Darryl and Ed Gibson and Dale Urch and Craig Wylie followed. After playing cards were handed in, all players with a hard-earned cold drink in their hand, were treated to a luscious spread of food. Great thanks must go to several key people who made the day a wonderful success: · Golf Queensland who very generously donated money for the prizes. Our Course Marshall, Axel who kept a close eye on our players and was quick to help out wherever needed. · The players from the Queensland Amputee Golf Association for their involvement in and support of this year’s competition. Hopefully, this will pave the way for a stronger relationship between our two Associations.· David Bartholomaeus for all his guidance and knowledge.· Indooroopilly Golf Course for providing a flawless venue and friendly staff for this year’s event.· The Associations Event Co-ordinator, Amy Sherwin who was off like a bullet in her cart (whether on a pre-worn track or her very own cross-country course) to and from each group taking orders for refreshments.· And energetic photographer, Greg Morgan, who tackled the beaming sun head-on to capture incredible shots of the golfers in full swing. Social Golf Club CARBROOK GOLF CLUB OCTOBER 5 th Attendance was reduced due to the A.R.L. Grand Final being held on the same day. However those playing enjoyed competing in a 4 man Ambrose event being held by the Carbrook G.C. and good scores were recorded by all the Q.A.G.A. groups. The day also provided the introduction of Ken Rowsell to the family of Amputee Golfers. Ken who prefers to be called “Ugly” (and I hate to say it Ken but I can understand how you got the nickname - LOL!!!) became an amputee a short time ago. However his game is far from being ugly and I can see him giving Coxy and Hutch a run for their money in the near future. Ugly was accompanied by his able bodied mate Rod Burrows on the day and he too has decided to join the Q.A.G.A. as a Social Member. A BIG welcome to both of you, I know you will share many happy hours with us over the future years!
